As 2015 is our first year of operation, we don’t have a long list of our achievements to show you yet. We will show you our plans for the years 2016 to 2018 as well our first results for the period 2015-2016.
As there are many areas needing attention in Montenegro, we have teamed up with the Montenegrin Ministry of Sustainable Development and Tourism to ensure our resources are aligned with its current strategy and that we are fully conversant with all the major environmental issues.
CREATION OF ZERO WASTE MONTENEGRO:
The vision of Zero Waste Montenegro (ZWMNE) is to bring Montenegro to the next level of awareness and action towards waste reducing, reusing and recycling.
the Ministry has recently released the new Waste Management plan for the coming 5 years ( see also: the country briefing from the European Environment Agency), in which ZWMNE will participate by executing the following projects through the period 2016-2018:
- Backyard composting
- First Zero Waste Municipality
- Green Innovation Hub
- Creating waste disposal awareness
Our second focus is to assist the Ministry in conducting several pilot environmental projects in collaboration with local communities, NGO’s and businesses. Projects in consideration are: increase usage of solar energy, reduction of GHG emissions in the tourist sector, sustainable agriculture and energy efficiency.
We, the founders, have together tens of years of experience in the Industry sector, Project Management, Management Consulting, Environment and Natural Resource Management. With that expertise, and the support of our guests, we are confident we will be able to make a noticeable difference.
As part of the Waste Disposal Awareness project,we organized on the 3rd of July 2015, the International Plastic Bag Free Day in Podgorica to raise awareness of the damages caused by single-use plastic bags in the environment, and encourage the population to refuse single-use plastic bags and use reusable ones. The event was well covered in the local press (see here).
